Abstract
The article analyzes the descriptions of iconoclasts of other faiths in Russian literature of the 19th century. The subject of this study is both historical novels and those works whose action takes place in modern times. It is proved that the goal of deducing a literary character – an iconoclastheterodox is the consolidation of Russian readers around Orthodox values against a common enemy.
