Abstract
M. Tsvetaeva's epistolary prose represents an original type of text, synthesizing the intimacy of communication and the declarative principles of artistic creativity. Therefore, it is considered a special type of creative text. The prose reflects the idiolect-specific features of the poet's language: constant reflection on the poet's figure, self-awareness, metalinguistic intuition, and the logic of choosing the right word to fully express the author's meaning. This article describes the main approaches to epithetation in M. Tsvetaeva's letters to N. Gronsky. The empirical data uses letters from M. Tsvetaeva addressed to N. Gronsky, published as a separate book in 2003. The methodological basis of the study includes the following methods: cognitive-semantic, lexical-semantic, component and continuous sampling. The directions of epithetation, among which are occasional word creation, the pressure of epithets, the clash of antonymous characteristic words, reflect the main idiolectic features of the poet’s language, presented both in her poetry and, to a greater extent, in her prose. The special position of occasional epithetation is emphasized by the graphic highlighting of epithet constructions: spacing, italics, capital letters, underlining. The purpose of these epithetation strategies is the need to express the author's understanding of the meaning and essence of an object by identifying new attributes. Tsvetaeva's idiolect is distinguished by heightened attention to what is said and active metalinguistic reflection, which is most clearly manifested in epistolary texts, which offer the opportunity to express everything and reinterpret reality. The results of this study contribute to the theory of epithet and linguistic studies of Tsvetaeva.
