Abstract
The article considers a video book in Russian sign language as a special form of adaptation of fiction in the context of modern media culture and the development of inclusive practices. The subject of the research is the process of adaptation of classical works of art during the transition from the sound modality to the visual-gestural one, as well as the specifics of the functioning of the Russian sign language in the video book format. The purpose of the work is to identify the basic principles and mechanisms of adaptation of a literary text into Russian sign language and to determine the role of a video book as an independent format for the existence of a literary work.
As a result of the study, it was found that the visual modality and spatial organization of the sign language determine the replacement of abstract and metaphorical expressions with visual images, as well as enhance the interpretative role of the translator-performer. It is revealed that the genre specificity of the fable is preserved due to the active use of non-visual means, acting and a special organization of gesture space.
