Abstract

This article examines unusual methods of adjective formation in modern Russian, using material from V. O. Pelevin’s novel “TRANSHUMANISM INC.” It is revealed that the author’s word formation is not a marginal deviation from standard usage, but a systematic strategy. It combines prefixal and suffixal derivation, contamination, compound models and contextual transformation of meaning. These mechanisms fulfil pragmatic, conceptual and expressive functions. They provide a reference point for socio-cultural phenomena, form an ironic take on trends, and serve as markers of the author’s style.
