Abstract

The article is devoted to the method of a literary text mathematization on the example of A. P. Chekhov's novella “The Black Monk”. It examines the possibility of combining two spheres – mathematics and philology – through the work of modern means of analyzing complex semantic structures, which we have conditionally divided into primary and secondary (analytical) levels. The anti-plagiarism system, the GPT chatbot, Google Translate online translators, and Yandex Translate are mentioned as illustrations of the use of these technologies for the primary decomposition of text into semantic components. In the context of the analysis of the literary text, special attention is paid to the composition of the work. It is considered as a complex system of mutual reflections (consisting of episodes, scenes, details, and characters), which can then be visualized into mathematical graphs for further use for practical purposes, including AI training. The end-to-end episode of the story is taken as the basis for mathematization: the meeting of the Black monk and Andrei Kovrin. Its variations in chapters 2, 8 and 9 are especially carefully analyzed, as well as the connection of images, actors, and the inner state of Andrei Kovrin, which initiates the transformation of all three fragments. In addition to the key role in the fate of the main character, this scene turns out to be at the center of the figurative system of the work, influencing the whole narrative with its motives. Using as an example, a system of directed semantic graphs is described. Such a structure makes it possible to competently compare literary categories and mathematically precise structures in an algorithmized digital world. An important result of the work is the conclusion that, given the potentially high development of AI, such research is impossible without the participation of digital philologists.
