Abstract

The article presents the results of a study conducted to examine the experiences of translating song texts in the cross-cultural creative process, during the preparation of international festivals, competitions, and master classes. The practice-oriented study is carried out using the example of the work of Yamanouchi Shigemi, a Japanese art historian, actress, and singer, the founder of the Russian Song Theater in Tokyo, whose academic and performing activities are aimed at studying and popularizing Russian song culture. The materials for the work include literary, translation, art, and cultural studies publications, numerous video materials, audio recordings, and other documents from the late 20th to the first quarter of the 21st century related to the study and popularization of Russian song in different countries of the world. The objectives of the study included studying the repertoire of Yamanouchi Shigemi, its history, and stylistic range. The methodology for developing a translation score of a cross-cultural event, presented earlier in our publications, and the main methods of humanitarian research (descriptive, biographical, cultural-historical, psychological, hermeneutic) were used. As a result of the research, songs related to the 18th, 19th, 20th centuries and presented by Yamanouchi Shigemi in her albums, concert and theater presentations, at international festivals of Russian song in 2003-2012 were identified. The academic novelty of the work lies in the study of the experiences of cross-cultural studies of Russian song classics for linguodidactic purposes. Academic essays devoted to the problem of mutual influence of Russian and Japanese cultures and other materials presented in the article in foreign languages will be of interest to culture historians and translators and can be recommended to postgraduate students and students at the universities of arts and humanities.
