Abstract

The article analyzes the morphosemantics of the words repentance and peace of mind. While characterizing the lexemes repentance and peace of mind from the diachronic and semasiological point of view the method of etymological analysis and semantic reconstruction is used, as well as a descriptive and analytical method for studying Anton Pavlovich Chekhov’s literary heritage. The study allows us to establish the uniqueness and semantic integrity of the morphosemantic field of reflexes of the ancient root * koi- // * kai-. The relevance of the topic is confirmed by the diversity of cultural value of the studied object and is due to the introduction of new factual material, the rationale identified systemic linkages, defining the semantic security of axiologically significant lexemes. The novelty of the taken approach is due to the lack of special scientific works on a chosen topic, the combination of the advantages of philological reading of classical texts and the possibilities of diachronic linguistics. The results of the work can be used in the study of not only creativity, but also philosophy, as well as the idiostyle of A. P. Chekhov in a modern school; when considering the problems of the works of the author in the context of modern social problems; as well as when reading basic and special courses of historical-linguistic and cultural orientation.
