Abstract

The linguistic study of the features of translation continues to be a relevant area of linguistics. The problem of the creative interaction of A. P. Chekhov and Chinese writers of the twentieth century is today one of the most studied in both domestic and Chinese philology. A. P. Chekhov’s translated works are the object of the research. The subject of the research is the lexical transformations characterizing the translations under study and which in some cases have a significant impact on the perception of the text. The purpose of the study is to identify and characterize the linguistic features of translations of the considered works into Chinese. The article discusses the specifics of perception of Western literature in Chinese society, A. P. Chekhov’s importance for Chinese literary scholars and readers. The significant influence of the work of the Russian writer on the works of Chinese literature is determined, in particular, on the work of Lu Sin, who is recognized as the most accurate translator of A. P. Chekhov’s works into Chinese. Some features of the translations of Chekhov's stories by various Chinese translators are noted. The main attention in the work is aimed at identifying and analyzing lexical inconsistencies in the translation of the play by A. P. Chekhov “Uncle Vanya”. Among the methods used in the work, the comparative method, aimed at identifying the general and specific in the language pictures of the world of the author and translator, is dominant. The author of the article also uses additional methods for studying the presented material: the continuous sampling method aimed at highlighting linguistic specific units, the method of vocabulary analysis, the descriptive method using observation, interpretation, and comparison methods. The results of the study can be used in the practice of teaching special courses on linguistic analysis of the text, problems of literary translation and intercultural communication.
