Abstract

The article deals with one aspect of the phenomenon of the cultural divide, which is reflected in the transformation of traditional social institutions and forms the identity of Russia’s cultural sovereignty. As genetic grounds for strengthening the identity of the national culture in the context of the cultural divide and its subsequent resistance to external influences, individual events of Russian history are considered, these events are characterized by wide-ranging cultural contradictions, such as confrontation, struggle and, ultimately, unity between the various manifestations of eastern and western cultures, they also gave rise to reflection on them in social and humanitarian scientific thought. From a historical point of view, we consider genesis and manifestations of specific forms of the phenomenon of cultural divide, noting its predominantly conflict-based nature. As the basis for the cultural divide we put forward historically formed lines of contrasting values between the spheres of state and church influence, innovations and «westernization» of the social and economic organization and the traditional way of life, the opposition of Westernizers and Slavophiles, eastern and western cultures, taking into account their religious background and the relationship between the individual and the collective. A strong relationship between tradition and cultural divide is reflected, taking into account the temporal dimension, including its reflection in the form of inter-generational conflict, also the multiplicity of cultural gaps due to undefined cultural diversity is noted. The mechanism for creating a cultural gap within a synergistic paradigm is being considered. Language indicators of this phenomenon are given.
