Abstract
Pleasure and enjoyment as a purpose of life is a wide spread idea in human culture. The author researched the origins of hedonism in religious cult and the development of hedonistic idea in philosophy and literature, particularly in works of Aristipp, Epicurus, Horace, Seneca and Petronius.
