Abstract
The subject of the article is the interpretation of the story of the Vadim Novgorodsky by M. Kheraskov in his poem "The King, or the Rescued Novgorod." The historical events described by the author are the material on which Kheraskov declares his monarchist and anti-revolutionary convictions. Novgorod rebellion is correlated with the French Revolution and the arrival of Rurik demonstrates the advantages of monarchy.
