Abstract

In the genre of scientific essay, researchers-philologists reflect on the peculiarities of perception of poetry (and above all video poetry) and its fate in the modern world, inviting all interested readers to a polemic on the meaning and role of the new genre/art in the digital age. The author reflects on why poetry today has lost its appeal to the majority of the reading public, and on the reasons for the popularity of poetry in recent times, when poets used to gather stadiums and undoubtedly had a huge impact on people's hearts and souls. Without denying the achievements of video poets, the researchers raise the question of the possibility of video poetry turning into a mass, entertaining, utilitarian use of the poetic word, imposing on viewers the feelings of the video poets themselves, often shallow, superficial, that is, into a way of self-realisation, regardless of the level of personal development. In their scientific essay the authors demonstrate sincere concern about the fate of poetry in the changed social conditions, being aware of the enduring value of the poetic word and its necessity for the spiritual formation of a man, opposing the discrediting of poetry by the ‘efforts’ of dilettantes, revealing ‘graphomania’ in the new art of video poetry. The problem, according to the authors of the scientific essay, affects not only the dilettantism of the creators of works of video poetry, but also the unpreparedness of the majority of viewers for its perception.
