Abstract

Mythology is a story created orally by people, expressing the worship and struggle of superpowers, understanding and imagination of ideal occupations and cultural phenomena, belongs to the category of folk literature and having a high philosophical and artistic nature. Both in the East and in the West they created their own myths, but in general they are two wonderful things that develop and grow in different cultural traditions, they are influenced by factors such as geographical location, economic form, political system and national psychology.

The image where the myths of East and West collide is a phoenix. In modern China, when Western literature was translated, the immortal bird was translated by the word phoenix, so confusion arose in this concept. Go Mogo’s poem Nirvana Phoenix actually refers to the legendary Phoenix in the West. This shows that Phoenix is the messenger of happiness in the world. The article consists of three parts. The first part is the origin and development of the Phoenix in the West, the second part describes its cultural connotation, the third part contains the myths of the phoenix of different countries. Every five hundred years it burns itself in fire in exchange for peace and happiness in the world, and after great pain and hardening it born again, contains a description related to cultural works about the Phoenix from Guo Mojo and Shakespeare to compare their meanings, more precisely, to reflect the difference between the western and eastern phoenix. Phoenix is a holy bird in ancient Chinese legend. It is a symbol of goodness, eternal life, love, authoritarian imperial power and Western national culture.
