Abstract
The article provides a semantic description of the adjectives dry / wet in Russian and describes the transformation of their meanings in M. Tsvetaeva's poetry. The empirical data used includes sources such as Dictionary of the poetic language of Marina Tsvetaeva, the poet's collected works, the Dictionary of the Russian Language, and the data from The Russian National Corpus. The methodological basis of the study includes cognitive-semantic, lexical-semantic, and continuous sampling and quantitative analysis of linguistic units. It is noted that the specific semantics of tactile adjectives depend on many factors, including the method of interaction with the object, its physical properties, and the experience of mpirical contact. The semantics of these adjectives is based on information about the presence or absence of liquid on the object's surface and its quantity. These adjectives become epithets, acquiring metaphorical meanings related to humans and their perceptions. In M. Tsvetaeva's poetic texts, the attribute dry is used in an absolute sense as the absence of life and water. The attribute wet is associated with moss and damp objects, reflecting the poet's desire for phonetic and semantic unity. The evaluative potential of these adjectives is multidirectional and develops toward the absolutization of dryness or wetness as reference attributes. The study of tactile attributes in the idiolexicon of various wordsmiths allows us to form a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms by which secondary meanings are developed in adjectives verbalizing these attributes. The specificity of M. Tsvetaeva’s idiostyle consists in the actualization of attributive vocabulary, which is reflected in the composition and volume of tactile epithets.
