Abstract

Movie trailers are a phenomenon that has become an integral part of modern screen culture. Short videos that produce an aesthetic and emotional impression on the viewers serve to attract their attention to the upcoming film. Playing an important role in the world of the film industry, they help promote and advertise new video products. This article analyzes the content and structure of the trailer for the film “Us”. The specifics of the trailer genre are revealed, the stages of its evolution from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day are studied, the targeting on a specific audience is indicated, which allows us to draw a conclusion about the trailer as a relevant tool of modern cinema. A correlation between the plot of the trailer and the collision of the film based on the novel by E. Zamyatin is noted. The reflection of the features of the chronotope of the dystopian genre in the visuals of the video is emphasized. The emphasis is placed on the authors’ use of archetypal motifs and images (Hero, Shadow, the Anima). Analysis of visual and acoustic effects focuses the viewer’s attention on the intensity of passions and the scale of the characters’ emotional experience, which indicates the advisability of using these techniques in the trailer. Particular attention is paid to the collage and montage techniques that serve to create the specific atmosphere of the video. The originality of the sound solution is emphasized, which is based on a cover of the iconic song of the Soviet era “Let There Always Be Sunshine!” The article concludes that thanks to the abovementioned strategies, the trailer gives the viewer a comprehensive idea of the feature film “Us”, creating a number of associations and new sensations in the viewers.
