Abstract

The fictional world created by Graham Greene in the novel “The Heart of the Matter” is very close to the world of Dostoyevsky’s novels. What brings together the characters of Dostoyevsky and Graham Greene is their Christian world outlook and philosophy of life: exaggerated sense of responsibility and guilt for the world, infinite compassion for the weak and fallen, discontent in faith. The tragic stories of relations of the main characters with women are focused on the biblical story of the fall from grace.
