Abstract
The article considers the artistic way to express duality of morals in the form of the mask on the example of the comedy of the 17th century Restoration epoch, and in particular, upon the example of W. Wycherley's comedy "The Country Wife". Socio-cultural and historical prerequisites of appearance of the artificial mask phenomenon in the dramatic works are explored.
