Abstract
The article analyzes Russian set expressions from the point of view of the fundamental connection of the semantics of their component composition with the spiritual culture of the Russian people. The research material is phraseological units of the Russian language with a proper name component, which have an obscure internal form. The subject of the study is the relationship between spiritual culture and phraseological units. The purpose of the work is to analyze the features of the process of obscuring the internal form of some set expressions of the Russian language, one of the components of which is a proper name.
The internal form is the initial motivating image that semantically organizes the process of formation of phraseological units and contains connotations which have information about the culture and history of the people.
In the phraseological fund of the Russian language there are unmotivated phraseological units in which there is no connection between their components and the original image that served as the basis for the formation of their semantics. Such unmotivated, or "obscure" set expressions have multiple and unconvincing versions of their origin, which are given in various sources. Phraseologisms with an obscure inner form as carriers of unique ethno-cultural information are of particular scientific interest, which determines the relevance of the study.
Acting as the equivalent of individual words, phraseological units are richer in their imaginal properties than individual words, since they, as a rule, have expressiveness and contain an assessment of the appearance or internal qualities of a person.
One of the main aspects of the study of "obscure" set expressions is the consideration of their functioning in various literary and journalistic texts. In addition to considering the etymological data of phraseological units, the article provides examples of their use in various literary sources, which implies a more detailed consideration of the relationship between the cultural and linguistic components of set expressions.
