Abstract

The article reveals the content of the concept of "happiness" in the language of the great Russian writer Anton Pavlovich Chekhov. The work is based on his own texts, which have been specially selected to fulfill our tasks. The main attention was paid to the story "Gooseberry" ("Kryzhovnik"), which directly reveals Chekhov's vision of the concept under consideration. The work also highlights the works of I. S. Shmelev, O. V. Sarachaev on the question posed for a better understanding of the linguistic personality of Chekhov. The subject of our research is the writer's texts, in which one can see the reflection of the concept of "happiness". The purpose of the work is to understand how Chekhov's attitude to the concept of "happiness" is expressed through the language of his works. Our work has practical value, since the results of the study can be used in the analysis of the writer's personality and his life principles, as well as in the analysis of his works at schools and universities in order to obtain more comprehensive knowledge about Chekhov's "vision" of the world. The novelty of the study lies in the fact that interest in Chekhov increases over the years, however, not many researchers turn their attention to the writer's understanding of happiness, although this helps to understand creative work of Anton Pavlovich Chekhov and his philosophy. While working on this article, we used the National Corpus of the Russian Language to collect statistical data on the use of the concept in question and to view the specific contexts in which it appears. It was with the help of certain passages of works that we were able to reveal the meaning of "happiness" in Chekhov's language picture of the world.
