Abstract

This article is dedicated to the study of word-formation activity of loanwords from the Buryat language in the dialects of the Transbaikalia region. The relevance of this research is determined by several factors. Firstly, the study of the functioning of the language and its implementation in different territories of the Russian Federation is valuable in itself, as it provides an understanding of how the language develops and functions when encountering national languages. Secondly, one of the current issues in Russian regional linguistics is the problem of how the Russian language deals with lexical borrowings from the national languages of the peoples of Russia. The object of this study is the derivational potential of nouns, borrowed from the Buryat language, in the speech of Old Believers. The goal of the work is to identify and describe the derivational activity of Buryat loanwords in the dialects of the Transbaikalia region, which determines the main research methods: comparative and contrastive analysis, description, and classification. The paper discusses the reasons for the emergence of loanwords from the Buryat language in the Russian language. The methods of word formation in the Russian and Buryat languages are compared. Words with the highest derivational activity are examined. The conclusion is made that they belong to the same thematic sphere. The most common word formation pairs in the studied dialects are those consisting of a loaned noun and its derived verb in the Russian language. Additionally, the word formation patterns used to form derivatives from borrowed words are analyzed. In conclusion, it is observed that derivationally active loanwords, when integrated into the Russian language system, undergo grammatical assimilation and form word formation pairs and nests based on existing word formation models.
